Some Adaptation conferences coming up in the rest of 2017.
3rd European Climate Change Adaptation Conference
Date: 5 – 9 June 2017
Location: Glasgow, Scotland
Climate change presents a wide range of serious risks, but also offers the opportunity to drive forward innovative adaptation actions. Vulnerability can be reduced by building strong, equitable, resilient societies, protecting natural capital and deploying cost-effective nature-based solutions. Well-designed climate adaptation actions can have wider benefits for health, economy and biodiversity, and can even have synergies with climate mitigation. ECCA 2017 will explore these opportunities and help to move them from theory to practice.
ECCA 2017 will build upon the achievements of ECCA 2013 in Hamburg and ECCA 2015 in Copenhagen, which emphasised research-policy-practice links and the emerging adaptation services offered by businesses. We aim to engage strongly with the people who will deliver action on the ground: local authorities, government departments and agencies, businesses, industry, NGOs and local communities. We will also showcase adaptation in action, with a focus on how this is transforming the lives of our people and communities.
11th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation (CBA11)
Date: 22-29 June 2017
Location: Kampala, Uganda
The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) is pleased to invite registrations for the 11th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation (CBA11).
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Harnessing natural resources and ecosystems for adaptation‘.
The CBA11 conference takes place in Kampala, Uganda from 26-29 June 2017. Field visits accompanying the conference will take place in various parts of Uganda from 22-25 June.
CBA11 aims to share and consolidate the latest developments in community-based adaptation practices, policy and theory across sectors globally. It aims to strengthen the existing network of practitioners, policymakers, planners and donors working on all levels of community-based adaptation, and enhance the capacity of practitioners, governments and donors to help improve the livelihoods of those most vulnerable to climate change.
The 2017 conference will be hosted by the Government of Uganda. It is being organised by IIED, the International Centre on Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), the Makerere University Centre for Climate Change Research and Innovations (MUCCRI) and the Ugandan Ministry of Water and Environment.
Sixth International Conference on Climate Change Adaptation 2017
Date: 16–17 September 2017
Location: Toronto, Canada
“Reducing Vulnerability through Adaptation”
This conference addresses the different dimensions of climate change. We are particularly interested to hear about your research, knowledge and experiences on the development of policy, strategies, approaches, tools, methodologies that can be adopted or adapted to better inform policy discussions by institutions, organisations and the international community to tackle the climate change challenge. We are also keen to hear about grass roots research which clearly identifies needs and knowledge gaps for further research.
We hope that this conference will stimulate discussions and debates and allows for the flow and exchange of knowledge and ideas thereby creating a unique resource and point of reference in this field. This will be an interactive conference underpinned by working group sessions. The findings from this conference will enable us to set up working groups in order to take forward some of the actions and recommendations on the climate change challenge.
